I am now one year older than I was a year ago.

link to a year ago...

I spoke to bro' Alan via www.skype.com yesterday (free). After we disconnected the electric current failed - not only in this unit but at the railway station. I was going to see "the doc" but nobody could issue me a ticket (due to the power failure) which is just as well as the appointment is for next Tuesday (sigh).....

I note acelightning's comments in Elsie's journal about being influenced by Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". I believe this was a book that influenced me at some stage. I purchased it in Acapulco Mexico on an ocean liner taking me to Genoa and back to the United Kingdom. I teaches self-reliance but also dismisses the needs of the weak.

I note that Ace appears to be posting to Livejournal and sometimes to Usenet so I assume that things aren't quite as gunjy as I thought they might be at this time.

quite a few people were influenced (one way or another) by Atlas Shrugged. as i said to elsibeth, over the years i've grown to appreciate the value of kindness towards those who are less fortunate. but i do still appreciate the principles of intellectual indepence.

of course, one of the reasons i now appreciate kindness towards the less-fortunate is that i've become one of them myself. my life is still a slow-motion train wreck, SUSFU (Situation Unchanged - Still Fucked Up). it's not going to be possible for my small business to gain any money, even from venture capital investors, before our personal funds run out. therefore, my husband and i are trying very hard to find interim income, and quickly. internet access is one of my smallest expenses - it's things like rent and utility bills that are the major concern. (and all the debts i owe, and have not been able to pay back; the bill collectors have recently discovered my new phone number, so i'm back to using the answering machine to screen all calls to the house between 8 AM and 9 PM.)

however... i don't want to dwell on unpleasantness when it's your birthday (or at least it just was). Happy Belated Birthday, and you're still older than i am! ;-)
