I've bought one of those desktop clocks with a digital thermometer.
Weather Penrith region January 2005
That's 44.3 for 14th. January. It's much hotter inside.
Thanks Ace for the cat stuff. It got a bit mangled in transit but I read it on your LJ :-)
According to my digital clock / thermometer it's 29 C in this room at this moment. That's cooler than 33 C two days ago... and yes that's with the fan running at full speed...

Fans don't cool air, they just stir it up a bit.
after about a week when the temperatures outside never got above -5 C, we're having a "warm spell", with temperatures that actually go above freezing. but i'm sure we'll get at least one more cold snap before winter's done. 2 February was "Groundhog Day" in the US, and at least some of the various locally famous rodents saw their shadows when they emerged from their burrows this morning (it was bright and clear in most of the NY area today). that indicates "six more weeks of winter". of course, since this is also Imbolc/Candlemas in the Northern Hemisphere, there will be six more weeks of (astronomical) winter no matter what happens to the woodchucks. it's the half-way point between the Solstice and the Equinox.
my son, his fiancee, and their new cat Beatrice, are all having a wonderful time "bonding" with one another. i'm pestering them for pictures.
