Jobs boomerang for baby boomers
BABY BOOMERS condemned to unemployment in recent times look set to be rescued by small business over the next few years with expectations that the Australian economy will be very strong.
"There is a diminishing number of skilled workers at the youth end of the labour market," said Julie Mills, the chief executive officer of the Recruitment & Consulting Services Association.
"Also, many young workers are going on to tertiary study and simply because of declining birth rates there are less young people to employ."
Ms Mills said older workers would benefit if Australia moved into a strong phase of economic growth with unemployment at 6 per cent levels.
