Fidonet LTUAE "So Long and Thanks for the Fish"

So long and thanks for the ghoti

LTUAE ? From Whirlpool

That Hitler point takes me back to my FidoNet days (1992-93) which I guess most of the net Kiddies wouldn't know about. But it's what we had pre-internet access, a public network of bulletin boards which exchanged messages on a daily basis. So maybe it would take 3 days for a message to get from Sydney to Hobart.

There was this one FidoNet group called LTUAE (Life, the Universe and Everything) where participants were infamous for abusing (flaming) each other. Periodically a "the rules" list was published (which was funny because LTUAE always prided itself on saying there were no rules) and one of them referred to this very point - "inevtiably every argument resolves back to Hitler and Nazi Germany".

As true as it was in 1992 I have yet to see it disproved to this very day, despite a much wider user base and improved technology!!

iolaus ? 2006 who the h*** is iolus ?

I became familiar with Theo from the early days of my involvement in Bulletin Boards as Theo was a regular contributor to the Paragon Bulletin Board (run by Jennifer Allen) 1988 +. We shared a great deal by way of interchange in the non networked local Discussion Boards of the now defunct Paragon Bulletin Board System (TBBS - The Bread Board System).

I met Theo a number of times - the first being at a "meet" in this area (Mt. Druitt - St. Marys - Werrington ) held by Paragon BBS contributor Margaret G.

I visited his "farm" in the back of the beyond which had no electricity, no water and no amenities whatsoever and recall a state of panic as his motor vehicle's tyre (tire) punctured as we entered the "farm" - not even marked as being in or near a town. (Eventually someone trecked several miles to hopefully find someone with a telephone) and we were rescued. Theo permitted me to fire a rifle into some old rusty Volkswagens - something he liked to do.

He was a contributor to "other nets" including Shaz's Katnet (www.soxkat.com) and Sandra Shaw's "ArcherNet" which "evolved" into a "do it yourself mailing list) and then into the Archer Yahoo Group run by Ron Naylon http://members.ozemail.com.au/~ronaylon/index.html - Ron's page which points to the Archer list.

I would say we possibly explored many ideas and quite a few "situations" over the period from 1990 to 2006 when we more or less "lost contact". Theo wasn't well and had been in hospital some years earlier.

I emailed Ron this morning and also brought up my archives and phoned him as I wasn't certain he was still "up and running".

As I understand it Theo was talking with his sister yesterday and simply "went".

As I told Ron this morning "Ron mate..I ain't going !" and warned him against talking with his sister only to learn Ron was safe as he doesn't have a sister. Neither do I come to that (sigh).

Bob i tried to inform you via your live journal yesterday but alas i dont know how it has come along. It might have been the day before time seems so very distant at the moment.

Bob to confirm everything He didnt die talking to his sister.

He was informed of that if he made an effort to get healthy he would live for a while longer,

So he took it upon him self to walk every day he used to walk to the coffee shop with his wife and to get some bread rolls for the day.

He died peacefully and while doing things he enjoyed.

I understand that you are not coming but if by chance you feel the need to say good bye your welcome to.

Kindest regards

Ian Bee

Thanks for the details of the service to be held on Monday. I've got a map so know where to go.

"I'm not going" is perhaps English vernacular for "I have no intentions to pass on" and was coupled in my reply to Ron Naylon comments about death and taxes stating a belief that only taxes are a certainty but in my case "I'm not going" (to die). After all it's only a possibility until proven otherwise.

Kindest regards,

This got reported to me (8th hand or something) as teddles was dead. Can you just confirm you're saying teddles 'cause she reported it to you?

'cause now I'm worried about Teddy, who I haven't talked to in ... umm, way too long ... and have no way to get in contact with.

Teddles is alive and (for anyone brave enough) can be found on Twitter which is where I was informed about Theo (Direct Message). Twitter can be public or/and private or a combination of both.

Twitter (if used) should be used with a Twitter client .. and it's free.
