Bye Bye Skype and Gizmo [Apr. 25th, 2008|10:15 am]
Bob Bain
TPG now has a "prepaid" VOIP service I can use and have signed up for..

TPG Softfone call rates...

I have a "telephone number" if the Softfone software is running (ask for details if interested - caller must be a softfone VOIP customer)

Calls to the UK appear to be $0.0199 cents Australian per minute - or about 2 cents per minute.
Local and national calls Australia wide 10¢ flat
Mobile calls Australia wide 28¢/min (billed by second)

TPG Softfone FAQ...

When you register, TPG will initially debit $20 for VoIP pre-paid call credit to cover calls outside the free calls. When your VoIP call credit falls below $5.01, TPG will ‘top up’ your prepaid call credit by automatically debiting your credit card $20. TPG will send you electronic confirmation of any such automatic debit.

Any unused call credit will expire 12 months after service activation. However, each ‘top up’ of call credit will commence a new 12-month period.

Expired call credit will not be refunded.

I no longer have to get steamed up about International credit card issues or the spam I was getting via the SKYPE client.
