The highest Court is unjust, stupid and illogical. The customers who bought the teacakes should be reimbursed because THEY are the ones who paid the VAT. NOT M and S. Bit obvious. Trevor
INDEED ! I demand immediate reimbursement of the 3.5 million quid I consumed on tea cakes at Marks and Spencers. ( I am a Citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It says so on my birth certificate and my National Indentity Card issued in Canvey Island Post Office several years ago )
The fact I live in a remote part (and am a citizen) of this sovereign nation of the (British) Commonwealth of Nations shouldn't stand in the way of my rights to be reimbursed for a tea cake binge.
BTW - we have a similar tax to the VAT (Value Added Tax) but we prefer to call it the GST (Goods and Services Tax). The basic idea is that taxes are levied and reimbursed at every point in supply chain. Food has always been a contentious issue. It was deemed to be non-taxable in both the United Kingdom and in Australia - with the exception of non staple foods such as Maccer's hamburgers. I am pleased to note that chocolate covered teacakes are considered an essential part of a the diet of a normal human being - especially if consumed at Marks and Spencers.
