The US Election

It appears as though George W Bush has been re-elected.

There was one phrase used in the campaign by his opponent (Mr. Kerry) that stirred me a little and that was "(under my administration) we will regain our influence in the world".

These are surely the words from a colonial mindset much akin to that of the European nations before the European Union.

I don't believe most countries regard their "influence in the world" as being of prime significance.

I am concerned at the Bush "moral agenda" but that appears to have been a positive voting point for about 21% of those who responded - and the polls seem to indicate a large voter turnout.

As with Australia however it's still about 50/50 in the numbers. It's how the votes are distributed that counts.
