Link to SMH Herald article regarding the demise of "The Bulletin" magazine..
January 26, 2008
"The Bulletin, the turbulent little magazine he founded "on a three-legged wooden chair" in 1880, is no more. After 128 years, the foreign-owned bean counters at PBL Media closed it down on Thursday. A press release of seamless corporate banality blamed the "somewhat symptomatic" rise of the internet for plummeting readership and revenue."
I have two copies of the February 15th, 1994 edition ( $3.30 New Zealand $5.50 INC GST) - there was no GST in Australia in 1994.
It has a somewhat interesting cover and asks in large print "Who are the PORN BOSSES?" and documents what is alleged to be an illegal trade in such material (described in detail) here in Sydney. It starts on Page 25 under the category SOCIETY/PORNOGRAPHY and oozes a headline "Sultans of Sleaze - Regular captains of industry they are not... Peter Fray wades into the twilight world of Australia's burgeoning porn industry and meets its prime movers and power brokers"
I also have one copy of the March 9th. 2004 edition ($5.50 INC GST NZ $6.50 INC GST) - there was to be NO GST in Australia (John Howard told us so.. however something went wrong)
The main article is about SEX & GOD - George Pell on why Australians are going to hell - Jennifer Byrne
The final judgment on Mel Gibson's The Passion
a film so violent that people are alleged to have died viewing it
I have finished my NEIS assignments ! (phew). Tomorrow is a public holiday so there's no NEIS - no "Art in the Pub" in Blackheath and I can do as I please... (phew)
