| | hot | ] | I took my bicycle pump into the bicycle shop in Penrith noting that "the gauge isn't working" whereupon the assistant connected it to a bicycle and noted that although the tyre was low on pressure the gauge was working. I then remarked that my tyre should be inflated to 50 psi so he pumped and I watched as the gauge reached 50 psi.
I then took the pump home and connected it to my front wheel noting no reading at all from the gauge - despite the fact the tyre felt firm. Taking a hint I pumped repeatedly and lo and behold the tyre inflated to 50 psi and registered on the gauge which does indeed appear to be working.
I thought the tyre was well inflated due to the fact I couldn't make any impact on it with my fingers.
I guess this is what tyre pressure gauges are for.
