Rudd denies he doesn't have the ticker... (link)
Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd has denied claims he is physically unfit to lead Australia following major heart surgery 14 years ago.
The Nine Network on Wednesday aired claims from unnamed anti-Labor sources outside federal parliament, who had circulated rumours about Mr Rudd's health, suggesting he might not be fit enough to become prime minister if he wins the federal election.
The sources alleged Mr Rudd had major heart surgery while he was a senior Queensland public servant - a graft that might not last for the rest of his life.
Mr Rudd confirmed he had received an aortic valve transplant in his mid-30s following a childhood illness."As a kid ... I had rheumatic fever like a whole bunch of Australians and then, later in life, in my mid-30s, and it often happens this way, the aortic valve was replaced and I received a transplant," he told the Nine Network.
Rudd insists he has a happy healthy heart..
Labor leader Kevin Rudd has confirmed he had major heart surgery nearly two decades ago, but denies it will affect his ability to be Prime Minister.
Anti-Labor sources claim a new heart valve Mr Rudd received could give out, making it a risk to elect him Prime Minister
