I have completed one whole week of employment in and around the offices and studios of Channel 9 in Willoughby. This is changing/automating the revised "board pack" (profit figures for the board of directors). I have spent a fair amount of time slicing and dicing into the profits (or otherwise) of this major television station/network. On Wednesday there was a pink car outside the building which I believe had something to do with the anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. The transmitter is just outside the canteen door and so is the Channel 9 helicopter and a whole parking space marked "Sixty Minutes" which is either
a) how long you can park there or
b) Something to do with a television program of that name which has been running years.
Described on Monday as "the Station" it is a network of small and large TV studio space and offices - and I was informed - cockroaches (very large cockroaches). I have a TV star Windows screen saver and the walls are covered with pictures of smiling television personalities. Amidst the shuffling of paper there are occasional bouts of people hitting musical instruments and doing other creative things in studios.
This sudden spate of income has temporarily killed my bi-weekly dole payment. I have an appointment with the DEN people next Thursday which I guess I should keep (3pm) as the contract is scheduled to end on Friday and I should spend time looking for work on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Next week it seems I might be writing VBA macros to automate the production of the revised format board pack - a task I have done quite a few times in the past for a variety of companies and odd balls.
At least this mob makes money. I believe "the station" has something of "a presence" which is completely independent of whomsoever may own the broadcasting facilities at the present time.
