|Newstart (the dole)

Yesterday on the advice of "the doc" I formally applied for the NewStart allowance and given the fact that I haven't worked for 3 months (the normal Liquid Asset waiting period) payments will commence this week. I explained that in my opinion I am able to work but that any work should not involve physical activity. This is recorded on the Centrelink computer but as a "temporary" ailment and I understand from my local GP that this is the "norm" for the NewStart allowance as the medical certificate "Centrelink" forms expire every 3 months. As I have been referred to a Job Network member who I see on Monday I asked my local GP this afternoon for a Centrelink certificate to state that I should not involve myself in anything involving physical exertion.
I note however that he has ticked two boxes which state that in his opinion I am unable to work for 8 hours or more, or even study for the three months to the end of September. I'm not certain what the Job Network member will make of this given that one of their tasks is to ensure that people on NewStart ("the dole") seek work or undertake study of some kind.
I believe I am able to work and most certainly don't consider the statement a true representation of the facts.
If someone offers me a contract role what I am supposed to do ? Turn it down ? I have no doubt at all that I am not medically fit (by any means) but I am not disabled either.
