From Trevor (in Cornwall) - somewhere near England.

Skanda Vale

The Community for the many names of God
Registered Charity 511166
Temples in Wales dedicated to the worship of God in his Universality

The National Assembly for Wales has issued a notice of intended slaughter. This means they intend to kill “Shambo” one of our Temple Bulls.

Skanda Vale Petition to Save Shambo

I/we support the Community of The Many Names of God (Reg. Charity No. 511166) in their stand against the Welsh Assembly Government and DEFRA (Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) to oppose the unnecessary killing of the sacred temple Bull called Shambo (Tag No.UK 742266/200001), the desecration of the Skanda Vale Temples and the Hindu religion.

Furthermore we demand that the Welsh Assembly Government withdraw its Notification of Slaughter and engage constructively with The Community Of The Many Names Of God to fulfil both the objectives of DEFRA to safeguard public health and protect the economic interests of the agricultural community, whilst upholding the religious beliefs of millions in the Hindu community and other faiths for whom all life is sacred.

We acknowledge that The Community of the Many Names of God is not a commercial farming enterprise, but is a sanctuary for all life and a registered place of worship. As such neither “Shambo” nor any other animal in their care will ever enter the food chain, further the Community has implemented all reasonable measures to minimise risk to the public or other animals, of exposure to the TB virus, in accordance with DEFRA’s recommendations.

Trevor writes:-

Dear BobB, when I was at university in Wales, Lampeter, a few times I visited a wonderful place called Skanda Vale, The community of The Many Names Of God. It is a really Holy place. Even when I dint believe in Christianity etc I was touched and moved by this place. There is a national outcry now becos The Bull there has tested positive for bovine TB - it is a reactor, tho' may never contract the disease. They have made it a separate home. As you know it is a sin to kill animals if you are Hindu, or in a Hindu place wh. this is, so we are all trying to save it. There is an online petition to save him. It is a good website - tho' it can't give you the feel of the place.

Please at least visit if even if you dont sign - thy'd be chuffed to have a signatory from Aus - if they haven't already. Shame Alan is not here to sign it. I signed on me mam's behalf. Hope you are OK.

Signed this morning at 7:50 am. I have an interview on Thursday morning. I might have a Maccers Brekkie. I realise Trevor wouldn't approve of Maccers as it involves the consumption of animal flesh but I am not a vegetarian and I figure the walk will do me good.

i just signed the petition. i also sent it to an old friend of mine, a former covenbrother who has also had a life-long interest in Hinduism. i expect he'll also pass it along to various mailing lists he's on. so there should be a sudden increase in the number of signatures from the US.

Trevor is probably a vegetarian (although not a "vegan" - if he follows a more-or-less-Hindu diet, he eats dairy products and eggs; in fact, consumtion of certain dairy products is part of some Hindu rituals.). while he might believe that everyone in the world would be better off following similar principles, i'm sure he doesn't begrudge you the occasional burger. enjoy your McBreakfast ;-)
