Three people from the last ship to take me to Australia. Ivan (from South Africa) Venie (from the USA) and Felicity (from South Africa) 1976
Ivan I knew for several years from 1976 (here) to 1995 when he was last seen in Sydney. I visited Ivan in Mexico in 1993. I was given the full tourist treatment (one week).
Felicity returned to Durban. We exchanged correspondence for a while. I recall taking Felicity on a tour of Melbourne (where I lived for a few months). I recall one of her comments "I've never seen anything like that..." to which I thought "lliving in South Africa I doubt that you would". She didn't fully appreciate St. Kilda beach.
Venie - one of the "forgotten" people mentioned in my posting about dreams of American singer/pianist Blossom Dearie. This photograph was taken on a train on return trip from Canberra. I recall driving down the coast with Venie to view (or not view) a total eclipse of the sun. We sat on a beach miles from Sydney and waited for the darkness. It did indeed go dark but we never reached the exact point where the eclipse could be seen it's totality.
