Letter and photographs received from Trevor in Cornwall this morning. Alan's broadband connection has been turned off as Trevor has no use for the Internet - not being computer literate.

I notice that bro' Alan's website is still there on Geocities

children who are too young to know how to read yet are using the internet - one doesn't have to be "computer literate" , beyond knowing what "point" and "click" mean. in the 21st century, there's no excuse for that level of technophobia. might as well haul water in a bucket, cook over a peat fire (by candlelight), and use a chamberpot. poor Trevor is going to find it difficult to get by without at least some use of the internet. (meanwhile, i've bookmarked your brother's site.)

incidentally, i suppose that by now you've noticed that Elsie is back from Japan, and posting "scribbles" as before.

The Internet is not something that means a great deal to Trevor who has managed without it for a considerable length of time. It also costs money and money is not something that Trevor has a great deal of. In fact various agencies are asking that Alan's debts be paid and taking furniture from the premises.

Welcome back (to) Elsie :-)

at least here in the US, more and more things are becoming accessible only online, or they make using them any other way very difficult - everything from banking to submitting an application to a university. still, i suppose that Trevor will find someone to help him if it becomes necessary. do they do internet stuff in public libraries in England?

i think it's grossly unfair, as well as ghoulish, for them to be trying to collect Alan's debts so soon after his death - and going in and taking his furniture is just unconscionable! and don't they realize that he died of a lingering illness? Trevor needs a lawyer.
