Dual Boot XP [Oct. 6th, 2005|09:26 pm]

Hmmmm... Dual booting XP Home and XP Professional is an interesting exercise. The programs mostly reside in the c:\progam files directory and there seems little point in reinstalling many of them. Some can be run in XP Pro without reinstalling. Some require the registration key to be re-entered. Some insist the software be reinstalled. In short there's a migration path from the XP Home installation and no data has been lost.

There's no doubt whatsoever that XP Pro is running several times faster than XP Home which had ground to a crawl. Yes I have other machines but this has a lot of data on it and I don't wish to lose whatever it may be I'm holding on to.

I didn't have to reinstall Agent, nor Opera nor Firefox. I had to reinstall Nero. Microsoft Office insists that it must be reinstalled. Once I have the programs I use most installed then XP Pro on this machine will become the default with only the occasional venture into XP Home if there's something I've forgotten about.
