New South Wales Christian Democratic MP Fred Nile is calling on people to pray that his party colleague, the Reverend Gordon Moyes, retires from politics.

Mr Moyes entered the Upper House of State Parliament in 2003, replacing the Reverend Fred Nile's wife, Elaine.

But Mr Nile says he now regrets inviting Mr Moyes to join his party because of his disloyalty and divisive actions.

In the newspaper he edits, Family World News, Mr Nile has called on supporters of the Christian Democratic Party to pray that his colleague fulfils a pledge to resign this year.

Mr Moyes has hit back, issuing a statement saying he will not resign.

He says he is worried by the party's anti-Muslim and anti-gay stance and has labelled Mr Nile an extremist.

Mr Moyes says Mr Nile is too old to be in Parliament and has moved the party away from its Christian-based roots.
