From the ABC News tonight...
More than 40 Queenslanders are facing charges after the world-wide police operation, and one of the alleged offenders has committed suicide.
Nationals MP Vaughan Johnson has told Parliament he is sickened and he hopes they are brought to justice.
"We find out how much guts they've got, because one of them committed suicide... and another one had a big go," he said. "But he must have not had the courage to do it properly. If they all went and did it first up we wouldn't have this problem."
A suicide prevention group say Mr Johnson's comments are concerning because they can be seen as glorifying the act of suicide.
Dr Michael Dudley from Suicide Prevention Australia says comments suggesting it takes courage to take your own life are not helpful.
"We have a major problem in this country with suicide, we do a huge disservice to people who die by suicide, those who remain and their families," he said.
"There's a huge major national epidemic and we really don't need to tip people - people on the edge - to be tipped over by comments like this."
IN AUSTRALIA PEOPLE ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY !
.. some conservative politicians however seem to believe that people should take their lives merely on a whisper of suspicion and without trial...
