Pamphlet scandal (Sky News)...
Updated: 16:14, Tuesday April 29, 2008
The case of five men accused of distributing false pamphlets in the lead-up to the last federal election, has begun in a Sydney court.
On the 21st of November Liberal party volunteers were caught in the electorate of Lindsay handing out fake pamphlets purporting to be from a non-existent Islamic group, and thanking the Labor Party for supporting terrorists.
Today, Troy Craig and Greg Chijoff have pleaded guilty to distributing electoral material without the name and address of the authorising person.
The scandal de-railed the election hopes of Liberal candidate Karen Chijoff, (Greg Chijoff's wife).
Two others involved have pleaded not guilty including, NSW Liberals right faction power-broker Jeff Egan, and Gary Clark, the husband of former federal Liberal minister, Jackie Kelly.
Jackie Kelly had denied any knowledge of the pamphlets prior to their distribution, stating 'I think it was basically a Chaser style prank'.
Robert Holstein has also been charged but his case has been adjourned until May 20.
